Managing Partner

Bret Morriss serves as Managing Partner of CAST Capital and Brokerage divisions where he manages the investments, commercial real estate services and advisory teams, which are responsible for capital markets, investment sales and brokerage teams.  Before CAST Capital Partners, Bret was the founding Managing Director of the San Diego office for Stream Realty Partners, a 1000+ employee company with 15 offices nationally focused on office and industrial leasing, management, development, and redevelopment.  At Stream Bret spent 5 years growing and leading a team producing over $1 million annually in fees. He personally executed over 300 leasing and sales transactions representing landlords, tenants, buyers, and sellers of commercial real estate properties. Prior to Stream, Bret was responsible for underwriting, due diligence and closing of more than $2 billion of commercial real estate assets in the Investment Banking group at Goldman Sachs in New York City and Investment Sales at Cushman Wakefield in Washington DC, concentrating on office sales, valuation, capital structure, marketing, and relationships. Bret is also a pilot and Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and has led more than 250 combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. He served as a pilot for Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), responsible for the transportation of the president and vice president of the United States, cabinet members and other dignitaries.

Managing Partner

Lawrence Howard is a real estate developer with over 18 years of experience in real estate development and construction. Responsible for the acquisition, entitlement, and development of over 1,700 multifamily units, most of which required discretionary entitlement permits.  He has been directly involved or overseen over $1.3 billion in planning, development and construction of various large-scale projects in Southern California ranging from mixed-use urban multifamily, high-rise, complex repositionings, adaptive reuse, laboratory, hospital, and office buildings.  Since its inception, CAST has partnered in the acquisition, financing and predevelopment of nearly $20 million and nearly 500 developable units in San Diego. Prior to starting CAST, Lawrence was the Director of Development for HV Companies.  There he was responsible for all aspects of development including planning, design, construction, and leasing of over $400M in urban, commercial and mixed-use development.  Prior to joining HV, Lawrence was the Development Manager for the San Diego Region for Trammell Crow Residential (TCR) where he was responsible for the acquisition, entitlement, and development of over 1000 multifamily units.  After receiving his BS in Construction Management from Colorado State University, he graduated with a Masters of International Real Estate Development and Finance from the University of Glasgow, UK.

Brandon Vega is a serial entrepreneur and has leveraged his unique expertise in the modern design world to create value through design in a breadth of top-performing real estate assets throughout Southern California. At CAST, he serves as Director of Development, where he leads the single-family and hospitality projects. Upon arrival to San Diego in 2009, Brandon opened a mid-century design shop in San Diego called Atomic Bazaar. Through his shop, he cultivated relationships with customers and community members that would later become his business partners. He has since opened two successful retail storefronts under the name Sea Hive, totaling nearly $5M in annual sales under a combined 40,000 SF, and has maintained key relationships with the local community and influential investors. Since 2014, Brandon has operated CCV Holdings as CEO, where he serves as head of development, management, design, and construction of their high-end, single-family development projects in the North County Coastal San Diego submarket.

Hunter Ancich

Brokerage Associate

Hunter Serves as a Brokerage Associate servicing investment / owner-user sales, tenant representation, and agency leasing across office and industrial product types. He has experience in real estate: marketing, commercial financing, and brokerage across Orange and San Diego County’s. Before Cast, Hunter served as a Brokerage Associate at Stream Realty Partners San Diego performing investment sales and leasing for industrial and office subtypes. Prior to joining Stream Realty, Hunter was a marketing coordinator for two residential real estate firm's in Orange County where he formulated strategic marketing plans, drip campaigns, and graphic design.. His Professional career began as an Assistant Processor at Marabella Commercial Finance to a Senior Loan Broker where they originated loans for single net and triple net income producing Commercial Properties across the United States. Hunter graduated from the University of San Diego on the Dean’s List majoring in Business Administration with a focus in real estate and a minor in marketing.

Nicholas Bost

Investment Sales and Development Analyst

Nicholas Bost serves as Investment Sales and Development Analyst at CAST Capital Partners. In this capacity, Nicholas is responsible for a variety of tasks related to the firm’s commercial real estate deals and transactions including underwriting, research, sourcing new investment opportunities, and transaction coordination.  He assists the managing partners in all aspects of capital markets for both the firm’s brokerage transactions and principal investments.  Nicholas recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of San Diego in May of 2022 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Real Estate and a minor in Philosophy, Politics, Economics (PPE).  He served as President of the USD Real Estate Society during his senior year, won the 2022 NAIOP University Challenge alongside a team of his peers, and was the recipient of numerous real estate scholarships.  Prior to joining CAST, Nicholas worked with a San Diego residential real estate team and personally closed more than $3 million in transaction volume across multiple deals in 2021. He also previously worked with an investment sales team at CBRE’s Capital Markets division in San Diego.  Nicholas is an active member of both the ULI and NAIOP organizations in the San Diego region.  He is also a licensed RE Salesperson in the state of CA and a lifelong Eagle Scout.

Brent Spohrer

Director of Operations and Investor Relations

 

Brent Spohrer serves as Director of Operations and Investor Relations where he manages the day-to-day execution as well as long-term planning and strategy for Cast.  Brent also coordinates principal investment opportunities, running compliance, and fundraising efforts for Cast's investment deals. Prior to joining CAST, Brent served in the U.S. Navy, first as a Naval Aircrewman and Rescue Swimmer, and later as a Naval Aviator and Aircraft Commander in the MH-60R Seahawk. His most recent assignment was as Director of the Personnel Recovery Academy where he led a staff of joint forces personnel in all operations and training. Brent previously served as Director of Future Operations for a tactical air squadron where he deployed with Special Operations Command. Prior to that, Brent worked at the Pentagon for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Fleet Readiness and Logistics. As Deputy Chief of Staff to a 3-Star Admiral, he was responsible for managing workflow for a 150-member staff and a $10B annual operations budget including navy’s global facilities portfolio. He later served as the Budgeting and Requirements Officer for a $1.3B, 31-vessel annual operations and maintenance budget. Previously, Brent was assigned to the HSM-75 Wolfpack in San Diego, CA where he flew over 200 missions and 670 flight hours including deployments to the Indo-Pacific and Middle East theatres. Brent holds a Master of Business Administration with a focus in real estate from Georgetown University, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arizona.

Mark Manalac

Transaction Coordinator

Mark serves as a Transaction Coordinator and Bookkeeper at Cast Capital Partners. He has experience being an accounting manager, bookkeeper, project manager, and executive assistant. Before joining Cast Capital Partners, Mark was a Senior Accountant at Botkeeper Inc. where he provided accounting services, management reports, and managed a team of bookkeepers.

Maddy Nimmo serves as Executive Assistant at Cast Development, where she aids in office management, operations, and administrative work for multi-family and commercial projects. She has experience with project management and development through her work as Director of Operations and Project Manager at Mod Vacation and CCV Holdings. Maddy received a Bachelor's Degree from UC Berkeley in Media Studies.

Brokerage Assistant

 

Katie Caggiano serves as a transaction coordinator and administrative assistant in the Cast Office. Currently, as a student intern, Katie is in her final year at the University of San Diego studying Real Estate and Business Administration. She has prior experience working at the SDCHC in the affordable housing field, as well as in property development here in San Diego. Katie recently received her California Real Estate salesperson license and serves on the board of the Real Estate Society at USD, as VP of Research and Outcomes.
